Japan’s stablecoin adoption is taking a major step forward as logistics company AZ-COM Maruwa Holdings plans to pay around 2,300 transport contractors and delivery drivers in JPYC, a yen-backed stablecoin. The company, which handles a large share of Amazon Japan’s last-mile deliveries, is partnering with JPYC Inc. and investing 1 billion yen (about $6.7 million) in the fintech firm.
The initiative is expected to become the first large-scale corporate use of JPYC in Japan and will allow contractors to receive payments directly into their digital wallets instead of through traditional bank transfers.
Reports say the new payment system will make settlements faster and easier for delivery partners, including self-employed drivers and small transport companies. Because payments use the yen-pegged stablecoin on-chain, contractors can get their money without waiting for regular banking schedules or month-end cycles.
AZ-COM Maruwa says it will combine logistics and digital payments by working with JPYC Inc. This investment also makes AZ-COM Maruwa a key supporter of JPYC, joining other investors in the company.
JPYC is issued by JPYC Inc. in Tokyo, which is registered with Japan’s Financial Services Agency as a licensed fund transfer provider. The stablecoin is fully backed by Japanese yen deposits and government bonds, and it works on several blockchain networks like Ethereum, Avalanche, Polygon and Kaia.
JPYC has grown steadily since it launched. Its circulation passed 2 billion yen in July 2026, and about 19,000 accounts have registered on the platform. The company aims to reach 10 trillion yen in circulation over the next three years.
This news comes as Japan’s financial sector is starting to use more regulated stablecoins. Many big banks, fintech firms, and retailers are testing or building payment systems based on stablecoins, though most focus on consumer payments or banking uses.
