- Paradigm has launched a $1.2 billion AI fund to invest in artificial intelligence, robotics, and advanced technology startups.
- The crypto venture capital firm said the new fund expands its investment strategy but does not replace its long-term commitment to digital assets and blockchain.
- Paradigm has already invested in Zipline International and True Anomaly, strengthening its portfolio in AI, aerospace, and defense technology.
Paradigm has unveiled a new $1.2 billion venture fund focused on investing in artificial intelligence and robotics firms, signaling a substantial shift away from its previous concentration on digital assets. The action highlights the company’s conviction that cryptocurrency is still a crucial component of its long-term investment plan while also reflecting the increasing momentum behind AI innovation.
Paradigm, a cryptocurrency venture capital firm established in 2018 by Matt Huang and Coinbase co-founder Fred Ehrsam, has become one of the top investors in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space. The company has supported a number of cryptocurrency initiatives throughout the years, influencing the industry’s expansion in both bull and bear markets.

Paradigm has stressed that the introduction of its AI-focused fund should not be seen as a move away from cryptocurrency. Rather, the company sees AI as another revolutionary technology that enhances its research-based investment strategy.
In an interview with Bloomberg, managing partner Alana Palmedo stated that cryptocurrency is still an intriguing area for the company, but she also acknowledged that the industry is tough to ignore given the speed at which AI is developing. Her remarks support Paradigm’s approach of investigating several innovative technologies rather than focusing on a single sector.
Paradigm’s $1.2 Billion AI Fund Backs Robotics, Defense Tech, & High-growth Startups
Several businesses in the AI and advanced technology sectors have already benefited from the recently raised funds. Zipline International, an autonomous drone delivery firm that was valued at $7.6 billion earlier this year, is one of the investments. True Anomaly, another rapidly expanding business creating cutting-edge aerospace technologies, is another space defense firm that Paradigm has supported.
Artificial intelligence has always piqued Paradigm’s curiosity. Co-founder Matt Huang openly said in 2023 that the company has “never been more dedicated to crypto” while acknowledging AI as one of the decade’s most significant technological advancements.
Huang contended at the time that rather than being seen as rival sectors, cryptocurrency and artificial intelligence should be seen as technologies that may eventually converge and open up new possibilities.
The company’s most recent fundraising coincides with the huge influx of venture capital into AI firms. Artificial intelligence, robotics, automation, and military technologies, all of which are anticipated to have a greater impact on the world economy in the years to come, are attracting more and more attention from investors in the technology industry.
