Wormhole Urges Users To Move Assets Before Moonbeam Network Shuts Down On July 31

Before the Moonbeam network closes on July 31, 2026, users are advised by Wormhole to remove or bridge their assets. The protocol cautioned that it would not be able to assist users in recovering any assets left behind after the shutdown procedure began. This guidance comes as Moonbeam prepares to transfer its ecosystem to Base, where the GLMR token will remain a one-to-one ERC-20 token.

Wormhole advised users to finish all necessary transactions well in advance of the July 31 deadline in order to prevent the possibility of permanently losing access to their money, according to a notification released on Tuesday. The business emphasized that the notification is just meant to serve as an informative notice and that the Moonbeam team is in complete control of the migration timeframe and technical process.

One of Polkadot’s most well-known parachains, Moonbeam, was introduced to give the Polkadot ecosystem Ethereum-compatible smart contract capability. It became the location of several cross-chain initiatives and decentralized finance (DeFi) applications throughout time. However, the initiative has changed course due to shifting strategic goals and market conditions.

Moonbeam announced that its GLMR token would transfer to Base as an ERC-20 token at a 1:1 ratio as part of the shift. The bridge is operational and will remain open until July 31. Users will retain their protocol stake if they relocate during this period.

With aspirations to develop a protocol for AI agent communication and settlement, the project is now concentrating on decentralized AI infrastructure. Moonbeam’s primary activities as a Polkadot parachain come to an end with this move.

Wormhole cautioned that assets left over after the network goes down cannot be recovered by either it or Portal contributors. Before approving any smart contract transactions, users should carefully review each migration step via Moonbeam’s proper channels.

One of the biggest DeFi protocols running on Moonbeam, Moonwell, reiterated the warning. The protocol warned that funds or active lending positions left after July 31 would become permanently unavailable, thus users were encouraged to liquidate or relocate all assets before the deadline. Moonwell’s risk manager intends to expedite collateral element reductions throughout the month in order to facilitate a smooth wind-down.

The scheduled closure serves as a reminder that decentralized blockchain networks might not exist forever. Users must keep an eye out for official updates and take prompt action during significant changes since projects may alter, combine, or close as markets change. To minimize risks and maintain access to your digital assets, if you have assets on Moonbeam, be careful to complete the move by July 31.
