A significant step toward the regulation of virtual digital assets will be taken when India’s much anticipated cryptocurrency report is delivered during the next Monsoon Session of Parliament. The study was conducted by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance following months of consultation with financial regulators, government agencies, tax authorities and cryptocurrency exchanges.
The committee also looked into concerns about large sums of money leaving the country through crypto transactions. Before finalizing its recommendations, the panel will meet with the Department of Economic Affairs on July 15, which will be the last stage of a study that could influence India’s future crypto policy.
The report, called “A Study on Virtual Digital Assets (VDAs) and Way Forward,” is expected to recommend how India should handle cryptocurrencies after years of uncertainty. Although the government has taxed crypto transactions, it has not yet created a full legal framework for the industry. The committee’s findings could become a key reference for future laws.
The study was carried out in 2024–2025 Under the supervision of BJP MP Bhartruhari Mahtab. Top national and international cryptocurrency exchanges, including Binance, WazirX, ZebPay, CoinDCX, CoinSwitch and Coinbase made presentations to the committee.
Early in July, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) addressed the committee directly, which was another significant event. Since the RBI has frequently voiced worries over private cryptocurrencies, its opinions are particularly crucial as legislators weigh their options for regulation.
Before completing its recommendations, the committee will meet with the Department of Economic Affairs on July 15. The report’s submission to Parliament may provide the clearest indication yet as to whether India would continue with its existing strategy or establish a specific legal framework for digital assets.
The rapidly expanding cryptocurrency market in India views this research as potentially revolutionary. Updates on taxation, consumer protection, compliance regulations, and the government’s long-term goals for the industry will be closely monitored by investors, exchanges, and blockchain businesses.
