Crypto exchange Bitget has launched Stock+, a feature that lets users buy and hold real US-listed stocks using digital assets like USDC. This move is part of a larger trend where crypto platforms are mixing traditional financial products with digital asset services.
Unlike many tokenized stock products that only give synthetic exposure, Stock+ gives users real ownership of shares through regulated brokerage partners. Bitget says transactions are handled by licensed firms like RQD Clearing and Atomic Vaults Securities.
Users can add cryptocurrency to their accounts, change it into USDC, and then buy shares of public companies. Investors also get the usual benefits of owning stocks, like dividends and stock split adjustments.
The product forms part of Bitget’s broader Stocks 2.0 initiative and arrives as competition intensifies between crypto exchanges and traditional financial institutions. Several major industry players are exploring ways to bring equity trading onto blockchain-powered platforms or integrate traditional securities into digital asset ecosystems.
Bitget recently launched its Reality protocol and rToken products, which offer tokenized exposure to stocks. Stock+ takes a different approach by providing direct ownership rather than tokenized representations. The distinction could appeal to investors seeking the protections and rights associated with actual share ownership.
Bitget says it offers more than 500 US stocks and exchange-traded funds through its equity products. Stock+ also lets users transfer existing stock holdings from certain brokers, so they can manage both crypto and stocks in one place.
This launch shows a bigger change happening in financial markets. Exchanges like Coinbase and Kraken are working on tokenized equity projects, while regulators and stock exchanges keep looking at rules for trading securities on blockchains.
By using traditional brokerage systems, Bitget might avoid some of the regulatory uncertainty around tokenized stocks. Still, this approach depends a lot on established financial middlemen instead of blockchain-based settlement.
As the line between crypto exchanges and traditional brokerages gets less clear, products like Stock+ could become more important in shaping how people invest in different types of assets.
