Ethereum developers have started the final testing phase of the much-anticipated Glamsterdam upgrade. This major update is expected to change how Ethereum handles transactions and scales for future growth.
Right now, core developers are testing all planned Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) in special development networks before moving to public testnets and then the main blockchain.
Ethereum Foundation developer Parithosh Jayanthi said the project is now in its last big stage before wider testing. Developers are working on improving performance, finding possible problems, and making sure all protocol changes fit together. There is no official launch date yet, but the upgrade is expected in the second half of the year.
Many see Glamsterdam as Ethereum’s biggest upgrade since the Merge. A key feature is EIP-7732, which adds Proposer-Builder Separation directly into the protocol. This change is meant to make block-building more secure and reduce the chances for unfair value extraction.
Another key feature, EIP-7928, brings in block-level access lists. This lets Ethereum clients get needed data ahead of time, which can make things run more smoothly and reduce slowdowns. The upgrade also changes gas pricing, making complex operations cheaper but raising the cost for long-term data storage.
Developers think these changes will make network costs match real resource use and help support new scaling technologies like zero-knowledge proofs. As testing continues, Glamsterdam is seen as a key upgrade that could shape Ethereum’s design and growth for years.
