Coinbase has expanded in India by launching ETH-INR and SOL-INR trading pairs, letting users buy and sell Ethereum and Solana directly with Indian rupees. These pairs went live on Coinbase Exchange on June 3 and will gradually roll out to Coinbase.com, the Coinbase app, and Coinbase Advanced. This move comes after Coinbase recently enabled direct INR deposits and withdrawals through IMPS, showing its increased focus on the Indian crypto market.
With rupee-denominated trading pairs, Indian users no longer need to convert their money into stablecoins or other cryptocurrencies before buying Ethereum or Solana. This change can lower transaction costs, make trading more efficient, and create a smoother experience for both retail and professional traders.
Coinbase has been rebuilding its presence in India since coming back to the market in 2025 after a long break due to regulatory uncertainty. The company registered with the Financial Intelligence Unit-India (FIU-IND) and now follows local compliance rules, including anti-money laundering standards.
India is still one of the world’s biggest crypto markets, with over 100 million people holding digital assets. But traders face challenges like a 30% tax on crypto gains and a 1% tax deducted at source (TDS) on some transactions. These rules have affected trading volumes and changed how people use crypto platforms.
The launch of ETH-INR and SOL-INR comes after Coinbase introduced BTC-INR and USDC-INR pairs. By adding direct rupee access to two major cryptocurrencies, Coinbase aims to meet the rising demand from Indian investors interested in Ethereum’s smart contracts and Solana’s growing DeFi and memecoin markets.
Today, Coinbase has added support for ETH-INR and SOL-INR for our users based in India.
ETH-INR and SOL-INR will be available on Coinbase Exchange at launch and support will be rolled out gradually across Coinbase․com, the Coinbase app, and Coinbase Advanced.
