Coinbase has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire The Clearing Company, an on-chain prediction markets startup, as part of its broader ambition to become an “Everything Exchange.” The deal is expected to close in January, though financial terms were not disclosed.
Founded earlier this year, The Clearing Company raised $15 million with backing from Coinbase Ventures and other major investors. The platform enables markets tied to politics, sports, culture, and digital assets, and was built by veterans from Polymarket, Kalshi, and other crypto-native firms.
The acquisition follows Coinbase’s recent announcement of its entry into prediction markets in partnership with Kalshi, alongside plans to offer stock trading. According to Coinbase executives, event-based markets are a natural extension of modern financial infrastructure. By integrating prediction markets into its ecosystem, Coinbase aims to unify trading across asset classes, signaling how crypto infrastructure is increasingly becoming the backbone for new, regulated financial products.
