Coinbase’s Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain, Base, encountered a short-lived disruption in block production early Tuesday.

The issue began at 6:15 UTC and lasted for around 30 minutes, halting all block generation at height 33,792,704. During the outage, users couldn’t transact, and several decentralized apps on the network temporarily paused services.

Base restored full functionality by 6:44 UTC. While the root cause remains unspecified, the network’s recent surge in activity may have contributed.

July witnessed explosive growth on Base, particularly from the launch of its Everything App and popular dApps like Farcaster and Zora.

More than 50,000 tokens were launched on Base by the end of the month, up from just 6,600 on July 1. This pause highlights both the demand and the technical challenges faced by new blockchain infrastructure.

Nonetheless, Base remains one of the more stable Ethereum Layer-2 solutions, joining peers like Solana and Polygon that have previously faced similar outages.
