IIT Madras Alumnus Donates To Set Up A School For Data Science, AI
An Indian Institute of Technology Madras alumni, Sunil Wadhwani, has donated ₹110 crore to establish a school for data science and artificial intelligence.
The donation was made in a memorandum of understanding between the institute’s Director V. Kamakoti and distinguished alumnus Sunil Wadhwani. Wadhwani, a 1974 batch B. Tech graduate and co-founder of IGate and Mastech Digital, believes that data-based technologies are transforming sectors worldwide and sees a strong need for a dedicated data science and AI school.
The institute plans to conduct research in AI and data analytics, with a goal of launching a state-of-the-art B.Tech programme in July 2024. The department aims to have 50 faculties and 500 students within three to four years.
