US DoJ Charged Two Russians In Hack Of Mt. Gox
Two Russian citizens have been charged by the US in connection with the running of the unauthorised cryptocurrency exchange BTC-e as well as the hacking of the now-defunct Mt. Gox exchange.
According to a statement from the department, Aleksandr Verner, 29, and Alexey Bilyuchenko, 43, were charged with planning to launder over 647,000 bitcoins obtained through their breach of Mt. Gox, which shut down in 2014 after losing half a billion dollars’ worth of the cryptocurrency.
According to the Justice Department, Bilyuchenko was also accused of collaborating with another person to run BTC-e from 2011 to 2017.
