Biden, Sunak Vow To Deepen Cooperation On AI
On Thursday, President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak reaffirmed their commitment to assisting Ukraine in fending off Russia’s on-going invasion while also pledging to intensify their cooperation on issues relating to artificial intelligence, clean energy, and essential minerals.
The “Atlantic Declaration,” which the presidents described as a “first of its kind” accord, will act as a framework for the two nations on matters relating to the development of new technologies, the protection of technology that is essential to national security, and other economic security concerns.
To help the U.K. become a leader in artificial intelligence, Sunak said that his government would host a summit on AI safety in the autumn, bringing together policymakers, scientists, and industry leaders.
He said it was vital to ensure that “paradigm-shifting new technologies” are harnessed for the good of humanity.
“No one country can do this alone,” Sunak said Wednesday. “This is going to take a global effort.”
Biden said the challenges that comes with the advancement of AI technology are “staggering.”
