Bitcoin Fever Grips U.S. Presidential Race 2024

By Kapil Rajyaguru

The race for the 2024 U.S. presidential election is starting to kick into gear, featuring some of the same cast of characters from the last few elections. On the Democratic side, you have Joe Biden, Robert F. Kennedy and Marianne Williamson suggesting they will run. Then, Former President Donald Trump, Nikki Haley, Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy are on the other side of the aisle.

Market participants believe this US presidential race will prove to be make or break race for bitcoin.

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. will be the first presidential candidate in United States history to accept campaign donations in Bitcoin, he announced during his first appearance as a presidential candidate at the Bitcoin 2023 conference. He praised the cryptocurrency as a “symbol of democracy and freedom” during the event.

Kennedy Jr. is the nephew of 35th President of the U.S. John F. Kennedy.

By attending the Bitcoin event, RFK Jr. is not only targeting voters but also a potential source of millions of dollars in donations.

Meanwhile, In a bold move, Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy has announced his acceptance of Bitcoin donations for his campaign, making him the second candidate in the 2024 US presidential race to do so.

Speaking at the Bitcoin 2023 conference in Miami, Ramaswamy urged supporters to “make the 2024 election a referendum on fiat currency.”

During his speech, Ramaswamy showcased a QR code that, when scanned, redirects users to a payment gateway offering various donation options, including Bitcoin and satoshis—the smallest denomination of Bitcoin. Eligible US citizens and permanent residents can contribute up to $6,600 to his campaign, and upon donating, they will receive a non-fungible token (NFT) as a token of appreciation.

This move by political candidates signals a growing recognition of the influence and potential of cryptocurrencies in shaping the future of finance and politics.

As the 2024 presidential race unfolds, it will be interesting to see how Robert F Kennedy Jr. Ramaswamy’s embrace of Bitcoin resonates with voters and whether other candidates will follow suit in recognizing the growing influence of digital currencies in the political sphere.
