Elon Trolls CZ, Gets A $1 Billion Reminder
Binance founder and former CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) went public on X on October 30 to ask Elon Musk to stop making jokes about the Binance hack.
Loss might be a bit higher than that, but will cover. 🙏

The appeal came after Musk responded to news of the $6.3 billion breach with fire and laughing emojis, along with the comment “Everyday is Zeroday,” a jab at the cybersecurity vulnerability that allowed the attack. CZ, while noting his respect for Musk, drew a clear line at the public mockery. “Elon, have a lot of respect for you, but bad time to troll. Please stop,” Zhao wrote on X.

CZ Reveals Binance’s $1B+ SpaceX Stake
In his response, CZ disclosed a financial card the company had been holding quietly: Binance owns SpaceX shares acquired through a $500 million contribution it made to Musk’s 2022 Twitter acquisition. Those shares are now worth more than $1 billion.
“Our SPCX shares (from our $500m investment in your Twitter takeover) are worth more than a billion,” Zhao wrote, making clear that Binance has the financial depth to weather the hack without turning to Musk’s own company for support. He stressed he had not suggested selling the stake, and was sharing the figure solely to demonstrate resources.
$2 Billion Gap, But Binance Says It’s Manageable
CZ’s public accounting put the total breach at just over $6 billion, with roughly $3 billion frozen by stablecoin issuers. After accounting for SAFU reserves of more than $1 billion, the remaining exposure stood at approximately $2 billion, which CZ described as “manageable but painful.”
@cryptobball @elonmusk @HuaweiMate6 Rough math:
$6.x b hack,
$3b frozen,
$1.x b SAFU fundGap is about $2b, we have $1.x billion in SPCX alone.
Remaining gap is (still painful, but) manageable. 🙏— CZ 🔶 BNB (@cz_binance) October 30, 2026
Co-CEO Yi He reinforced the message, stating that the company’s annual revenue is sufficient to cover losses without needing to liquidate the SpaceX position. Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong separately offered the industry’s assistance.
@cz_binance @elonmusk @HuaweiMate6 Reporting to the major shareholder: Our company’s revenue for the year is sufficient to cover the losses, so we do not yet need to sell the SpaceX shares you are bullish on.💁♀️

Nikita Bier, an executive at X (formerly Twitter), noted the gap between the scale of the alleged theft and Zhao’s reassurances.
