Tether has invested in EFY Finance, a regional financial infrastructure firm as part of its seed funding round, it was revealed on October 13, 2026. The investment will see the Latin-American based fintech expand its regional footprint and improve services linking stablecoins to traditional finance.

EFY Finance offers stablecoin-related services including accounts, wallets, cards, custody and over-the-counter transactions involving USDT and USA₮ digital currencies, but the firm has not revealed the amount invested by Tether or the fundraising proceeds.

With a Digital Asset Service Provider license from El Salvador and operations in Bolivia, Columbia, Mexico, El Salvador, Panama, and Ecuador, EFY Finance claims to service over 25,000 individual and company accounts and settle monies in local accounts throughout 17 countries.

Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, clarified that capital controls, inflation, and currency fluctuations were the main factors driving demand for dollar-pegged stablecoins in Latin America.

Andrés Tobón, CEO of EFY Finance, stated that businesses needed services connecting dollar deposits to the financial ecosystem where they were operating, including bank accounts, local payment systems, cards and cross-border settlement services.

The investment came as cryptocurrency usage was growing in Latin-America. Tether noted that Chainalysis research revealed that $1.5tn cryptocurrency payments had passed through the region between July 2022 and June 2025. It added that more than half of exchange purchases in the region were made using stablecoins, but the figures do not specify the proportion used for payments or remittances.

There is a key difference between the two stablecoins mentioned in the announcement. While USDT is issued by Tether, USA₮ is issued by Anchorage Digital Bank, a federally chartered US bank, and Tether supported the launch of USA₮, which is aimed at the US market, but the announcement did not specify how the stablecoin would be integrated into EFY Finance’s Latin-American services.

The investment highlights Tether’s interest in developing stablecoin infrastructure, but the companies have not announced new banking partnerships, payment corridors or product launches.
