Elon Musk’s X could soon add buy-and-sell buttons that would allow users to trade cryptocurrencies directly from posts, according to remarks by former X product head Nikita Bier. The feature would build on X’s Cashtags, which already allow users to view live price charts for assets such as Solana and Ethereum. If launched, the trading buttons could let users buy or sell crypto without leaving a post. However, X has not officially confirmed the feature, so the reported plan remains unverified.
What are you talking about?
I literally built Cashtags, allowing people to add Solana and Ethereum charts directly into posts—with trade buttons coming soon.
You can even paste contract addresses for newly minted tokens.
There wasn’t a single feature on X for crypto traders…

In a recent article, Bier talked about the future functionality, stating that he has developed Cashtags to let users to directly include Ethereum and Solana charts into posts, with trading buttons to follow.
Since its introduction in April 2026, cashtags have allowed X users to include current market data into regular talks. Users may put a token contract address into a post or search, or they can type a dollar-sign ticker, as $SOL or $ETH.
The matched asset, a live price chart, and relevant posts are then shown by the platform. Users may now more easily track market changes without ever leaving X thanks to this.
The experience may be improved by include trading capabilities. Rather than merely looking at a chart and talking about a token, users may take direct action by purchasing or selling the asset.
The substantial cryptocurrency community that is currently active on X may find the tool very helpful. Reducing the need to switch between social media and trading apps might make it easier for traders to discuss new tokens, market trends, and price fluctuations.
Bier also said that X previously had no dedicated tools for crypto traders. The development of Cashtags and the proposed trading buttons therefore represents a broader shift in how the platform handles financial information.
The potential move also fits into Musk’s wider plans for X. Since acquiring the platform and changing its name from Twitter, Musk has explored expanding X beyond social media into payments, financial services and other areas.
Bier pushed back against suggestions that recent crypto market strength was mainly the result of changes at X. He pointed instead to broader macroeconomic factors, including US Treasury bond buybacks, which he argued could contribute to dollar debasement and support risk assets such as cryptocurrencies.
Still, several important details remain unknown. X has not announced an official launch date for the trading buttons, and there is no confirmed information about which cryptocurrencies would initially be supported.
It is also unclear which wallets, exchanges or trading partners would provide the underlying infrastructure. Security, regulation and user protection will be important considerations if X eventually allows users to execute crypto trades directly from posts.
For now, the buy-and-sell feature should therefore be treated as a planned development mentioned by a former X product executive, rather than an officially confirmed product launch.
If the feature does arrive, it could turn X from a place where people mainly discuss crypto into a platform where users can discover, research and potentially trade digital assets without leaving the app.
