Kraken has added an S&P 500 perpetual product to its proprietary trading programme, giving funded traders round-the-clock exposure to the US stock-market benchmark. The product is available through Kraken Prop and is structured as a perpetual based on an index oracle tracking the S&P 500 rather than a standard futures contract. It has no expiry date or rollover requirement. The S&P 500 becomes the second traditional market offered through Kraken Prop after the Nasdaq 100, while Kraken plans to add commodities as part of a broader multi-asset expansion.

Traders can access the S&P 500 product through both the evaluation and funded-account stages of Kraken Prop. According to the company, the product offers leverage of up to 5x and maximum notional exposure of $1 million.

Kraken Prop allows traders to purchase an evaluation and, if they meet the programme’s requirements, qualify to trade using capital provided by Kraken. Evaluation plans start at $20, while funded accounts range from $5,000 to $200,000.

The addition of the S&P 500 reflects Kraken’s effort to move beyond crypto-only trading and bring more traditional financial markets into its platform. The company has already added the Nasdaq 100 to the programme and says commodities will be introduced as the multi-asset rollout continues.

Unlike a conventional S&P 500 futures contract, the new product does not have a fixed expiration date. Its price is based on an index oracle tracking the benchmark, allowing the product to remain open without the need for traders to manage contract expiry and rollover.

The launch is also part of Kraken’s broader push into traditional financial products. In July, the exchange said it would give retail investors access to Jersey Mike’s initial public offering through direct share allocations in the United States. It also planned to offer tokenised versions of shares in more than 110 countries.

That expansion shows how crypto exchanges are increasingly trying to become broader trading platforms rather than focusing only on digital assets. Products linked to stocks, indices and commodities allow users to access traditional markets through infrastructure that has traditionally been associated with crypto.

For Kraken, the S&P 500 launch also gives its funded traders another market to trade alongside crypto assets. The round-the-clock structure is particularly notable because traditional stock markets generally operate within set trading hours, while crypto platforms have built their businesses around continuous market access.

The company is now preparing to extend the programme further with commodities. If the planned expansion goes ahead, traders using Kraken Prop will have access to a wider mix of crypto and traditional market exposures from the same platform.

The move reflects a broader shift in the digital-asset industry. Crypto exchanges are increasingly adding traditional assets and financial products as they compete for professional and retail traders. Rather than keeping stocks, indices and commodities separate from crypto, platforms such as Kraken are increasingly bringing the two worlds together.
