The US Department of Justice (DOJ) is nearing the end of its investigation into the cryptocurrency exchange Binance, which began in 2018. According to one report, US prosecutors are divided over whether the evidence gathered is sufficient to press criminal charges against the crypto exchange and its executive.

The 2018 investigation focuses on Binance’s compliance with anti-money laundering (AML) laws and sanctions in the United States. Prosecutors in the United States were looking into charges of unlicensed money transmission, money laundering conspiracy, and criminal sanctions violations.

According to the report, Binance’s defence attorneys met with Justice Department officials in recent months and argued against any criminal proceedings. According to the report, the discussions included potential plea bargains.
