Tokyo-listed Bitcoin Japan Corporation has bought another 5.8847 Bitcoin, taking its total holdings to 17.8035 BTC. The company paid an average of $84,706.34 per Bitcoin for the latest purchase, completed on October 7. It has now spent about $1.5 million on Bitcoin, using roughly one-third of the ¥662 million budget approved for such purchases. The company is building a Bitcoin treasury, but its financing structure also creates a significant dilution risk for existing shareholders.

The latest purchase was made through BTC JPN Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary registered in the Cayman Islands. Bitcoin Japan disclosed the transaction through Japan’s TDnet system, which listed companies use to report important corporate developments.
This was the company’s second Bitcoin purchase in just nine days.
On September 28, the company bought 11.9188 BTC at an average price of $83,857.43. Adding the two purchases gives the company its current holding of 17.8035 BTC. Based on the two disclosed purchase prices, the average cost is about $84,138 per Bitcoin.
Bitcoin Japan has said that future purchases will depend on market conditions, available cash and other financial requirements. The company will also value its Bitcoin holdings at market prices every quarter. This means a major change in Bitcoin’s price could directly affect its reported earnings.
The company’s Bitcoin holding is still very small compared with other listed companies. Tokyo-listed Metaplanet, for example, held about 44,000 BTC at the end of September.
Metaplanet has become one of the best-known Japanese companies following the Bitcoin treasury model used by Strategy, the US company led by Michael Saylor.
Bitcoin Japan has a much smaller balance sheet and a very different business history. The company was formerly known as Marusho Hotta and has roots going back to 1861. It spent much of its history in textiles, women’s clothing and kimono distribution.
The company began changing direction in 2025. Bakkt Holdings agreed to buy about 30% of the company from RIZAP Group, and the company later changed its name to Bitcoin Japan Corporation.
Bitcoin is also not the only area where the company plans to use its new capital. In July, the board approved a financing package with EVO Fund involving zero-coupon convertible bonds and share warrants. The financing could raise about ¥9.66 billion if fully used. Of this amount, ¥662 million has been set aside for Bitcoin purchases.
