Tether has invested in Peso, a Bolivian fintech company that is building payment services using its USDT stablecoin. The investment will help Peso expand its services across Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia and Argentina.
Announced on October 21, the funding round was led by Tether, but the companies have not disclosed the amount invested or when the expansion will be completed. Peso aims to make it easier for people to use USDT not only for saving and transferring money but also for everyday purchases.

Peso’s app allows users to save, spend, invest and transfer USDT across borders. The company is also working to connect digital money with local banks and businesses. Its aim is to make spending stablecoins as easy as making a normal digital payment.
In Bolivia, Peso has connected its services with Yango, a digital services platform. Users can order food through Yango and pay directly using USDT. Peso also provides payment services for shops and virtual accounts in users’ names. These services connect USDT with the local banking system through QR code payments and bank transfers.

However, the company has not said that all these services are already available in Brazil, Colombia and Argentina. The investment is expected to help it expand its services in these countries and make it easier for users to convert USDT into local currency and convert money back into stablecoins.
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said the investment would help turn USDT from a savings option into a payment method people could use regularly.

Peso co-founder and CEO Alejandro Terán said many people in Latin America already use USDT, but they need better ways to spend it on daily needs.
This is not Tether’s first investment in Latin American financial services. On October 13, it backed EFY Finance, which provides stablecoin payment services. In July, Tether invested $20 million in cryptocurrency exchange Mercado Bitcoin to support its work in areas such as tokenization, credit and cross-border payments.
The investment in Peso is part of Tether’s wider effort to connect digital currencies with everyday financial services. However, the companies have not shared Peso’s total number of users, participating shops or payment volumes. These figures will help show how widely its services are being used as it expands.
