Polygon Heimdall Mainnet Restored After One-hour Consensus Outage

The Polygon Heimdall V2 mainnet, which manages validator communication for the network’s proof-of-stake consensus, experienced a brief outage on Wednesday due to a suspected consensus bug. The issue, which began at approximately 9:30 UTC, was reportedly caused by the abrupt exit of an unidentified validator from the network.

Polygon confirmed that block production via the Bor layer remained unaffected throughout the downtime, ensuring that user transactions continued to process normally. Heimdall was fully restored within an hour, and the team is now working to resolve any discrepancies between network uptime and external block explorers.

The incident underscores the increasing challenges of maintaining consistent uptime in modern blockchain networks. Polygon’s Heimdall V2 upgrade, launched earlier in July, had introduced major enhancements—reducing finality times to around five seconds and incorporating CometBFT and Cosmos-SDK v0.50 to modernize its architecture.

Despite the brief disruption, Polygon maintains that network resilience remains a top priority.
