MoonPay, a cryptocurrency payments company, has introduced PayBox, a payment vault that lets users of ChatGPT and Claude conduct cryptocurrency transactions while maintaining financial control.

The official announcement states that PayBox is currently operational. Without ever leaving the conversation, users may purchase cryptocurrency, exchange tokens, transfer assets between blockchains, and utilize decentralized finance. Users only need to specify what they want to accomplish, and the AI will prepare the transaction for approval, saving them the trouble of browsing several applications and websites.

According to the firm, the goal of this solution is to ensure that cryptocurrency remains accessible. Users can enter basic requests in plain language after connecting a cryptocurrency wallet and payment mechanism to ChatGPT or Claude using a custom connector.

After reviewing the request, the AI assistant makes the transaction ready. MoonPay verified that nothing is finished unless it adheres to the user-selected authorization parameters, allowing users to decide how much autonomy they want the AI to have.

On the site, users may purchase cryptocurrency with ordinary money, exchange tokens, transfer assets between blockchains, and deposit money into decentralized financial protocols.

Additionally, the platform can manage some routine operations, such as making bookings for restaurants, flights, and shopping at supported online retailers. MoonPay claims that rather of requiring many steps, all of these processes may be initiated with straightforward text prompts.

Users have two alternatives for permissions, according to MoonPay. The first is named “Always Ask,” and before every transaction is finalized, users must authorize it using a passkey.

The second option is “Autonomous,” which enables the AI assistant to carry out certain tasks independently while adhering to user-specified expenditure caps and guidelines. A user must use a different passkey to authorize any future changes they wish to make to these rights.

Additionally, MoonPay stated that each permission may only be utilized for a single action before expiring, preventing it from being used again for another transaction.

The business claims that PayBox protects wallet keys using trusted execution environments (TEEs) and multi-party computation (MPC). The private key is distributed and maintained across safe hardware environments rather than being kept in one location. This implies that neither MoonPay nor the AI assistant are able to transfer a user’s money or access the whole key on their own.

Visa’s agentic commerce protocol handles card payments, enabling transactions to be made without revealing or keeping the user’s card number.

PayBox accepts a number of payment options, including cryptocurrency wallets, debit cards, bank accounts, Apple Pay, and PayPal, according to MoonPay. Additionally, it supports networks like Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Polygon, Hyperliquid, Tempo, and Robinhood Chain that are compatible with Solana and EVM.

Additionally, PayBox interfaces with x402, an open payment protocol that was first created by Coinbase that allows AI agents to conduct online payments.

The protocol is being administered as an open, vendor-neutral industry standard after being donated to the Linux Foundation in April 2026. Travel reservations, dining reservations, and purchases from large online merchants are among MoonPay’s initial x402 integrations.

The most recent addition to MoonPay’s larger AI approach is PayBox.
