Agent Wallet, a self-custodial wallet that enables AI agents to carry out on-chain transactions while adhering to user-established restrictions, has been formally introduced by MetaMask.
AI frameworks such as Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, OpenClaw, Hermes, OpenCode and Cursor can be connected with the wallet. After that, agents may use MetaMask’s command line interface to monitor markets, arrange deals and execute trades.
Before allowing an agent to complete a transaction, users can set daily spending limits, allowlisted procedures and risk preferences. Guard Mode and Beast Mode are the two operating modes available in MetaMask.
Agents using Guard Mode must adhere to authorized procedures and budgetary constraints. Any transactions that don’t follow those guidelines are stopped and delivered to the user via email or the MetaMask mobile app for two-factor verification.
For sophisticated users, Beast Mode eliminates some of the policy constraints; nonetheless, transactions that are deemed harmful are still banned and require human approval. The business claims that agents cannot get over MetaMask’s security measures.
The wallet is compatible with both Hyperliquid and supported Ethereum virtual machine networks, such as Monad and Robinhood Chain. Token transfers, swaps, batch transactions and other decentralized finance activities may be carried out via it.
According to MetaMask, users may complete qualified trades and swaps without having to retain a network’s native token in order to pay gas costs. Alternatively, the wallet can use the token used in the transaction to settle the network charge.
Before being executed, supported EVM transactions go through a three-step security procedure.
Gas routing, token approvals and anticipated balance changes are all displayed during the initial step of the transaction simulation. The second uses technologies developed by Blockaid, a blockchain security business, to look for dangers. The last phase limits value loss through maximal extractable value activity by utilizing MetaMask’s Smart Transactions mechanism.
Subject to the rules and restrictions of the program, eligible transactions that pass the security procedure but nonetheless cause a covered loss may be eligible for MetaMask Transaction Protection of up to $10,000 per month.
Agent Wallet offers two options: “bring your own wallet,” which retains keys on the user’s device and server wallets, which safeguard keys independently from a user’s primary wallet. According to MetaMask, users may export their secret recovery phrase and maintain control over their keys.
Developers can install specialized skills that convert natural language queries into wallet instructions and access the wallet using MetaMask’s CLI. The system provides structured data that can be handled by agent frameworks and AI models that are compatible.
Agent Wallet was originally made available by MetaMask in June through a restricted early access release. On August 6, the company announced the product’s formal debut, allowing traders and engineers to test agent-driven on-chain operations.
