BNP Paribas Asset Management has launched a blockchain pilot issuing tokenized shares of a French-domiciled money market fund on Ethereum.
The tokenized share class was issued via BNP Paribas’ AssetFoundry platform using a permissioned access model that restricts holdings and transfers to authorized participants.
The initiative was conducted as a limited intra-group experiment designed to test end-to-end processes, including issuance, transfer agency functions, tokenization, and connectivity to a public blockchain within a regulated framework.
BNP Paribas said the pilot builds on previous tokenization efforts and complements earlier experiments involving private blockchains and settlement infrastructure.
The firm added that tokenization could improve operational efficiency, transparency, and security in traditional fund administration while remaining compliant with regulatory requirements.
The move underscores growing interest among global asset managers in applying blockchain technology to core capital market products.
