Arthur Hayes made the announcement on August 18. He said that he is coming out of retirement to be in charge of Flop Labs. He described FLOP as “food for your AI agent” and said the token would launch with “No presale, No VCs, 100% fair launch.”
The project is about intelligence and blockchain being connected more and more. Flop Labs wants to make a network where artificial intelligence agents can pay for things, talk to services and finish transactions all on their own, without needing people to say it is okay every time. Artificial intelligence will be a part of this network.
Building A financial System For AI Agents
As computers get smarter and can do things on their own, we might need systems that can handle money without people. Now computers can do lots of things for us, but when it comes to money, a person usually has to be involved.
The people who made Flop Network want to fix this problem. They want to create a system where computers can buy and sell things with each other. They made something called FLOP that would be like money for the computers. FLOP would let computers pay for the power they need to work, buy things they need and pay computers that they do business with.

Flop Labs also introduced the project through its official X account, posting: “Announcing the Flop Network. $FLOP is food for your AI agent.” Flop Labs has not shared all the details or how the tokens will work. This leaves questions about how many tokens there will be, how the network will work and how the free token distribution will happen.
Hayes said a large FLOP airdrop is expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, while the network’s genesis block is planned for the first quarter of 2027. Information released about the project also indicates that airdrop eligibility is currently connected to following the Flop Labs account.
A New Chapter For Arthur Hayes
The launch represents a new direction for Hayes, who has remained an influential figure in crypto through his work as chief investment officer at Maelstrom and his market commentary.
His return also follows criticism surrounding several recent token trades. In June, crypto investigator ZachXBT criticized Hayes over his sale of Worldcoin (WLD), arguing that the move came shortly after Hayes had promoted the token. Hayes had also exited positions in HYPE, NEAR and ZEC around the same period.
Despite the controversy, Hayes is now turning his attention toward the emerging AI-agent economy. With the planned airdrop and genesis block still ahead, Flop Labs will need to reveal more about its technology and token structure before the market can fully assess the project’s potential.
