By Vishakha Thakur

Metaverse, the future of Internet is all poised to change various industries including the music industry. Throughout history, the way music has been created, played, learnt, and experienced has changed in response to technical advances and altering preferences among musicians and audiences. Today, metaverse is emerging as a new arena for musical activity. The journey of the music industry to the metaverse is going to be interesting and an exciting one. Music Fans can enjoy immersive experiences and popular singers can interact with their fans in real-time. There are various music related metaverse platforms which provide singers as well as music fans with immense opportunities.

How can Metaverse reshape the music industry?

As witnessed in the past, musicians were focused on events for brand sponsorships and more monetizable opportunities, to engage more fans. Metaverse will open new doors for the music industry where any musician can build a dedicated fanbase.

  • Metaverse will break down barriers for music makers and fans and they can interact in an immersive manner
  • Virtual Performances are much more appealing and realistic.
  • Digital Assets will help musicians to engage with their fanbase and musicians are concentrating more on digital assets.

What are the use cases of Metaverse in music industry?

There are various use cases of Metaverse in the music industry and it is already changing the way we consume music.

VR Concerts

Celebrities such as Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande have hosted virtual concerts in metaverse. Metaverse allows fans to engage with their favourite celebrities in an interesting way. Fans from anywhere in the world can attend virtual concerts and experience them in a much better way.

Non-Fungible Tokens

Monetization is often difficult for artists in the music industry especially when they are building their career. NFTs are making their way to the music industry. With the use of NFTs, they can earn direct monetization for their work, after they convert it into a digital art piece.

VR Games

There is a lot of potential for metaverse in the music industry and knowing the benefits it can generate, various gaming platforms such as roblox and fortnite have created spaces for musicians. Fans can interact with their favourite stars and win exciting rewards in games.

Avatars

Artists and fans can create their avatars and make them dress according to their own wish. Creating avatars is an interesting way of interacting in the virtual worlds. Artists can leverage the opportunity to make their avatar the most interesting one as it ultimately helps them to interact with their fans and monetize in the virtual world.

What is the future of music industry in Metaverse?

The ownership economy is likely to continue driving artists to engage directly with their fans, and artists and brands alike will need to participate in the metaverse with a clear definition of each other’s value. Brands will be preparing to give up some control if they want access to the audiences amassed by creators through new strategic options.

Finally, the metaverse has already begun to disrupt and propel the music industry ahead in ways we never believed imaginable through partnerships, highly tailored virtual experiences, community-building, and more. Artists, labels, and brands who interact with the metaverse now and use its abundance to engage with their audiences in meaningful, true ways will be able to distinguish themselves from their counterparts in the industry.
