Vitalik Buterin has suggested a technical update that could make it easier for people to run nodes on the Ethereum network.

At present, people who run Ethereum nodes are required to operate two separate programs. These programs manage the blockchain’s execution layer and consensus layer.

Setting them up requires technical knowledge, time and powerful computers. Because of this, many ordinary users find it difficult to run a node.

Buterin believes that this system has made people think that running a node is a complicated job that only professionals can do. He says this should not be the case. According to him, individuals and even households should be able to run their own blockchain infrastructure easily.

He also explained that technical complexity and hardware requirements are stopping more people from running nodes. If only a few large companies run nodes, the network could become too dependent on them.

To solve this problem, Buterin has suggested ideas like partially stateless nodes. These nodes would store only part of the blockchain data instead of the entire history. This would reduce storage needs and make node operation easier.

The proposal shows Ethereum’s long-term goal of keeping the network decentralised and allowing more people to participate.
