U.S. Sens. Elizabeth Warren and Andy Kim have called on Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to review a reported $500 million investment by a UAE-linked entity in World Liberty Financial, a crypto project associated with former President Donald Trump.
The senators requested that the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) assess whether the deal poses national security risks. In a letter, they asked whether CFIUS had already examined the transaction or made recommendations to the president.
The Treasury-led panel is responsible for scrutinizing foreign investments that may affect U.S. security interests. The inquiry comes amid heightened bipartisan scrutiny of foreign involvement in strategic sectors, including digital assets. The Treasury Department has not publicly commented on the matter.
