Ethereum has activated its first Blob Parameter Only (BPO) fork, a scaling-focused update designed to expand the network’s data capacity without initiating a full hard fork.

Introduced through the Fusaka upgrade on December 4, the BPO fork increases blob availability for Layer-2 rollups by raising the blob target per block to 10 and the maximum to 15—representing a 67% jump.

Etherscan confirmed the change, noting that the update gives Ethereum more space for rollup data while preserving the chain’s lightweight design.

The Fusaka upgrade itself went live following the 225th All Core Developers Execution meeting and completed smoothly, with only a temporary dip in participation among 25% of Prysm validators.

Developers quickly addressed the issue, and validator performance returned near normal levels. A minor Nethermind-Nimbus inconsistency remains under review but affects very few users.

According to James Smith of the Ethereum Foundation, Fusaka “makes Ethereum feel bigger without looking different,” improving bandwidth, wallet support and network flexibility for future upgrades.
