The crypto world is buzzing with the bullish sentiment reflected by Fantom’s price. FTM, the native token of Fantom is mooning by a whopping 92% in the last month.

At the time of writing this, the price of FTM stands at $0.9346 grabbing spotlights as the top-performing non-meme cryptocurrency among the top 100 digital assets by market value.

What’s fueling this surge, you ask? Well, one major factor is the highly anticipated Sonic upgrade.

The testnet of the Sonic upgrade launched in October 2022 has created a hubbub around Fantom – hence, its price rise!

Now, what is Sonic upgrade and what does it promise to bring to the table?

Let’s understand.

Understanding Fantom’s Sonic Upgrade In a Nutshell

Fantom Sonic is an anticipated update of the Fantom network aimed at offering scalability and storage to developers, which ensures a seamless and swift experience for users.

The official website of Fantom Sonic describes Sonic as the newest iteration of Fantom. It promises to scale the network to greater heights through innovative blockchain technology.

Precisely, slated to replace the current mainnet Opera, the Sonic upgrade targets the two critical metrics in the blockchain domain, i.e., transaction throughput and time to finality.

3 Crucial Upgrades Sonic Promises

Transactions Throughput

The Sonic upgrade is anticipated to achieve beyond 2,000 transactions per second (TPS) and a time to finality of 1.1 seconds. This is a significant improvement over Opera mainnet’s current capacity of merely 3.0 TPS.

Cardem Database Storage

The Sonic upgrade aims to reduce the storage requirements for the network by up to 90%. The Cramen database storage uses flat storage to simplify data retrieval and reduce storage requirements.

Fantom Virtual Machine (FVM)

Sonic Upgrade promises to offer FVM to provide higher executive performance than the Ethereum Virtual Machine, or EVM. FVM can process 65x times more transactions per second. Besides, FVM supports super instructions and optimized bundles of commonly occurring instruction patterns, thereby reducing the execution time.

How Fantom Sonic is a Game-Changer?

The answer to the question of what makes Fantom Sonic a game changer lives in the problem it attempts to tackle.

Blockchain has always had a tumultuous situation while scaling over a wide range of network uses.

Ethereum has attempted to pave the easier pathway for solving scalability issues. However, there still entails limitations that raise concerns surrounding security risks, decentralization, and complicated user experience.

In fact, there is a still bigger limitation!

High network fees and congestion aggravate the limitations in interacting with the mainnet.

Here comes Fantom Sonic with its solutions!

Fantom decided to enhance its main layer for handling huge transactions effectively and achieving finality on time. Thus, Fantom Sonic was created.

Fantom Sonic is an innovative upgrade that aims to replace the Fantom Opera. It aims to enhance scalability with an improved transaction pool and lower transaction fees.

Wrapping it Up!

Fantom Sonic is set to unlock a new future for the Fantom ecosystem. The team has completed their testnet, recording a whopping 4000 TPS – thus showcasing a positive stress test with finality of one second.

As the date of the launch of Fantom Sonic nears, the crypto market is indeed looking forward to the innovative upgrade!
