The increasing availability of VR and AR technology is one of the key drivers of the metaverse’s popularity. These technologies enable users to interact with immersive and realistic virtual worlds, leading to the development of a diverse set of metaverse platforms that are gaining popularity among users.

Here are some popular metaverse platforms:

Meta Horizon Worlds​​​​​​​

Meta, one of the global leaders in metaverse investments, is well-known throughout the world for being one of the most vocal proponents of the metaverse’s role in future industries and social applications. Its Horizon Worlds virtual platform aims to provide users with a decentralised and immersive online experience. The platform makes use of blockchain technology to create a safe and transparent virtual world in which users can own, buy, and sell virtual assets and real estate, as well as interact with others in a shared virtual space.

Microsoft Mesh​​​​​​​

Microsoft Mesh is a Microsoft platform that allows users to connect and collaborate in mixed reality across devices and locations. Users can use the platform to create and experience shared virtual and augmented reality environments, allowing them to interact with each other and with digital content in a more natural and intuitive manner.

One of Microsoft Mesh’s most notable features is its ability to connect multiple devices and platforms, such as virtual and augmented reality headsets, smartphones, and PCs, allowing users to collaborate and share their experiences across devices and locations.

Decentraland

Decentraland is a virtual reality platform that uses blockchain technology to build a decentralised, immersive online world. Users can create and monetize their own content on the platform, as well as buy and sell virtual real estate and assets as NFTs using the MANA cryptocurrency. Decentraland, which will be available to the public in February 2020, is built on the Ethereum blockchain, which enables secure and transparent transactions in the virtual world.

Epic Games

Epic Games is a video game developer and publisher best known for popular titles like Fortnite and Unreal Engine. The company recently announced plans to enter the metaverse and create a social and gaming platform that will connect players from various games and virtual worlds. Epic Games plans to leverage its expertise in game development, its large player base, and its successful business model, to create a metaverse platform that will allow users to interact, socialise, and play games in a shared virtual space. 

NVIDIA Omniverse

NVIDIA Omniverse is a virtual reality and simulation platform created by NVIDIA, a leading technology company in computer graphics and artificial intelligence. Omniverse is intended to bring together diverse industries such as film, gaming, product design, and architecture by providing users with a collaborative and immersive environment in which to create and simulate their projects. To provide a realistic and high-quality visual experience, the platform makes use of NVIDIA’s hardware and software technologies, such as ray tracing and AI.
