Activision Blizzard Settles Discrimination Lawsuit

Activision Blizzard has agreed to pay $54 million to settle a gender discrimination and harassment lawsuit filed against the company in 2021 by the California Civil Rights Department.

The lawsuit accused the gaming giant of perpetuating a culture of gender-based harassment and discrimination within its workplace.

The settlement will provide monetary relief to women who were employees or contract workers in California between October 12, 2015, and December 31, 2020, and it will undertake new obligations regarding policies aimed at preventing discrimination.

Activision Blizzard has faced numerous challenges and controversies, including allegations of potential monopoly-building following Microsoft’s acquisition and systemic sexism within the company.

The settlement aims to fully implement the new obligations, but the company still faces the task of rebuilding trust within the gaming community and among its employees.

To regain trust, Activision Blizzard must comply with the settlement terms and implement a cultural shift promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
