Tenstorrent To Manufacture Chips For Samsung
Samsung’s contract chip manufacturing division has added Tenstorrent, a Canadian startup, as a new client, the company announced on October 2.
Tenstorrent is one of many companies vying for market share against Nvidia, which currently dominates the AI chip industry. In addition to creating semiconductors and intellectual property for data centers, the company seeks to provide other sectors, such as the automotive industry.
Samsung and Tenstorrent have agreed to manufacture chips using Samsung’s 4nm manufacturing technique. The Tenstorrent product, a chiplet, will be packaged with other chiplets. The deal’s pricing and production number were kept secret. Tenstorrent uses RISC-V, an open-source semiconductor design, which competes with Intel’s Arm and x86 architectures. The deal’s details remain confidential.
