Ethereum’s Holesky Testnet Fails To Launch

Ethereum developers failed to start their new test network, Holesky, on September 15th, causing a delay in the launch of the “Merge” upgrade. The network’s core developers reported a misconfiguration in one of its genesis files, causing the launch to be postponed for two weeks to allow for a better understanding and recovery.

Ethereum has experienced a rare setback in its recent launch of Holesky, which is expected to ease scaling issues and be critical for its next hard fork, Dencun. Developers plan to allow twice as many validators to join the network compared to the mainnet. Holesky is also expected to be critical for Ethereum’s next hard fork, Dencun, which will launch proto-danksharding, a scaling feature. The setback in Holesky’s launch is not expected to affect the timing of Dencun. The launch was intended to mark the first anniversary of the “Merge,” Ethereum’s historic event where it became a “proof-of-stake” blockchain.
