zkSync Unveils Latest Prover Tech ‘Boojum’

The zkSync team, has launched a new layer-2 network upgrade in mainnet shadow mode. This phased rollout involves a parallel testing zone. zkSync is a scaling solution for Ethereum, using zero-knowledge (zk) rollups, which are available in zk and optimistic varieties. These rollups batch transactions off the mainnet, roll them up into smaller bundles, compress them into proofs, and settle on Ethereum.

A prover is a cryptographic technology that compresses and packs transactions, generating proofs worth thousands of dollars. However, due to high computing power, the barrier for user participation is high. The latest upgrade aims to address this issue.

Boojum, a dangerous variant of Snark, is lowering hardware barriers to secure zkSync. The new prover can operate with 8 gigabytes of hardware, compared to the average 500 gigabytes demanded by provers. Boojum also offers cheaper transaction compression, reducing costs and making it a crucial step in zkSync’s security.
