Gift Of Ganga Launched In Metaverse
By Vishakha Thakur
The evolution of the metaverse will open up new opportunities. The power of this technology is now being used to highlight the importance of waste segregation and to educate people about the importance of hygiene.
For decades, the holy river Ganga has carried municipal garbage, untreated sewage, industrial chemical effluents, religious offerings, with plastic as the most pervasive, persistent pollutant. And now, in partnership with Swayambhu, a social enterprise and Central Government’s Namami Gange Programme, soap brand Lifebuoy has come up with a ‘Gift of the Ganga’ metaverse campaign which aims to weed out plastic waste from the river.
Gamers in ‘Gift of the Ganga’ will be invited to fish out plastic pollution from the mighty river which is recreated in the metaverse. In exchange, an equivalent or more amount of plastic will be cleared from the actual river. So far, nearly 12 tonnes of plastic waste, equivalent to approximately 6 lakh 1.5 litre PET plastic bottles, have been removed.
So to understand how this partnership will benefit holy river Ganga, we have been joined by Akanksha Singh, CEO of Swayambhu Social Foundation.
