Meta Opens Metaverse Horizon To Teenagers
For the first time, Meta has made its Horizon Worlds “metaverse platform” available to younger users.
Until now, Horizon Worlds was only intended for adults to use. 13-17-year-olds in the United States and Canada, on the other hand, will be able to access the virtual world “in the coming weeks,” with other countries expected to follow.
To make the platform safer for younger users, Meta says it has implemented “a robust set of age-appropriate protections and safety defaults.”
These include hiding a teen’s location and status, blocking them from mature game worlds, and limiting teen interactions with adult users. Meta also offers something called Voice Mode, which “transforms the voices of people a teen doesn’t know into quiet, friendly sounds,” and “garbles” the younger person’s voice.
