Manchester United, one of the world’s best soccer teams, has issued its first set of non-fungible tokens on the proof-of-stake Tezos blockchain. Fans must log in with their Tezos wallets in order to receive NFTs. On the blockchain, one can track digital collectibles and save them in their wallet. Midway through November, United announced the NFT project, referring to it as a gift to supporters.
The team’s first digital collectible is a key that grants users free access to a variety of benefits. Keys are classified into three categories based on their rarity: Classic Key, Rare Key, and Ultra Rare. They will be distributed to club supporters at random. As part of its announcement, the English Premier League football team said it will develop a virtual environment linked to its official Discord.
With the inaugural NFT collection set to drop “soon”, the partnership is not the Red Devils’ first agreement with Tezos, as the two signed a $20 million training kit sponsorship back in February.
