- The Hong Kong Gold Exchange, the city’s sole recognized gold exchange founded over 100 years ago with more than $100 million in daily trading volume, has connected its XGZ token to Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol.
- XGZ is issued by GoldZip, the HKGX’s Singapore-registered digital arm; each XGZ token represents one gram of 999.9 fine gold stored in recognized vaults and assayed by Hong Kong government-approved laboratories.
- The Chainlink CCIP integration enables XGZ to transfer across multiple blockchain networks, removing reliance on a single proprietary bridge and opening access to decentralized finance applications including lending and use as collateral.
- GoldZip projected a $300 million physical gold reserve by H1 2026, targeting the position of the third-largest gold-backed token globally after Tether Gold and Paxos Gold.
The Hong Kong Gold Exchange (HKGX) is the only gold exchange in Hong Kong that was established over 100 years ago and sees more than $100 million worth of gold traded each day. It has now enabled seamless interoperability between the XGZ gold backed token and Chainlink’s Cross-Chain Interoperability Protocol (CCIP), to allow the XGZ token to be transferred between blockchains using the Chainlink infrastructure.

GoldZip: XGZ Token Structure & Regulatory Standing
XGZ is issued by GoldZip, the HKGX’s Singapore-registered digital arm. Each XGZ token represents exactly one gram of 999.9 fine gold stored in recognized vaults. The gold backing is assayed by laboratories approved by the Hong Kong government, providing independent quality verification.

GoldZip is regulated by Singapore’s Ministry of Law (MinLaw), giving XGZ a regulated issuance framework in Southeast Asia. XGZ previously traded on decentralized exchange Uniswap and on centralized exchange MEXC. Barry Ip, HKGX Head of Digital Innovation, said the launch of GoldZip marks a significant milestone for the future of gold trading in Asia.
Market Ambitions & Cross-chain DeFi Potential
GoldZip projected a $300 million physical gold reserve by the first half of 2026, which if reached would position XGZ as the third-largest gold-backed crypto token globally by reserve size, behind Tether Gold and Paxos Gold. The Chainlink CCIP integration is expected to expand XGZ’s utility beyond simple peer-to-peer gold transfers.
Because CCIP allows XGZ to move across chains, the token can potentially serve as collateral in cross-chain lending protocols, be deposited in yield strategies across different blockchains, and reach a broader base of institutional and retail investors who operate on different networks. Chainlink’s CCIP provides a permissioned, security-audited standard that major financial institutions have used for other tokenized asset cross-chain transfers.
