- The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency granted the final approval to Ripple for setting up Ripple National Trust Bank (RNTB), a de novo trust bank controlled by the Federal Government.
- RNTB is responsible for managing the reserves behind the RLUSD stable coin, serving as the collateral trustee of the RLUSD token holders, and providing custodial services of digital assets to the institutions.
- RLUSD will be issued by the Standard Custody and Trust Company, which is regulated by the DFS of the State of New York, in addition to the OCC charter.
- RNTB can’t accept deposits or FDIC-insured accounts.
The California-headquartered blockchain firm Ripple Labs Inc. confirmed OCC’s final approval on October 26, 2026, for setting up Ripple National Trust Bank (RNTB), which will be a federally chartered trust bank.
Big news heading into @RippleSwell: the @USOCC has granted final approval for Ripple National Trust Bank.
This gives Ripple a federally supervised platform to support $RLUSD and provide digital asset custody to enterprises.
We’ve always said crypto and banks work better together — this is what that looks like. Real innovation, real accountability, federal oversight.
The revolution isn’t happening outside the system. It’s happening from within it.

The chief executive officer (CEO) of the organization, Brad Garlinghouse, announced the development on X by saying that it was a perfect example of his belief in the effective combination of crypto and banks.
From Application To Final Charter: A 15-month Process
Ripple acquiesced its national trust bank application to the OCC on July 2, 2025. Closing approval for RNTB arrived the week of October 26, 2026, completing a 15-month process from application to charter.
RNTB’s Mandate & What It Cannot Do
RNTB will succeed the U.S. dollar deposits, government securities, and cash-equivalent reserves that back the RLUSD stablecoin. It will also serve as collateral trustee for those reserves on behalf of RLUSD holders and will offer fiduciary digital asset custody services to institutional clients.
The bank is a expert trust institution: it cannot accept retail deposits, offer FDIC-insured accounts, or function as a full-service commercial bank. BNY, the custodian bank formerly known as BNY Mellon, will continue as key reserve custodian.
RLUSD’s Position & The GENIUS Act Backdrop
RLUSD, introduced in December 2024, boasts a market cap of about $2.5 billion, and is being utilized in the payment processing system of Ripple and serves as the collateral for Ripple Prime, its prime brokerage network.
The issuance of RLUSD shall continue via Standard Custody and Trust Company, which operates under the regulation of the New York State Department of Financial Services.
Garlinghouse said the OCC charter provides an even tougher foundation for RLUSD and Ripple’s institutional services across payments, custody, and capital markets.
