Mt. Gox has prolonged the deadline for the withdrawal of assets for its creditors for one more year. The extension of the repayment schedule takes effect on October 31, 2026, to October 31, 2027. Trustee Nobuaki Kobayshi announced this decision in a statement on October 16. He noted that a considerable number of creditors were waiting for the execution of payments due to late submission of applications or other associated difficulties. Thus, the trustee will make every effort to finalize the transfer of funds to the claimants within his power.

Once a leading Bitcoin platform, Mt. Gox filed for liquidation in 2014, having lost nearly 850,000 Bitcoins. Subsequently, most of its users were unable to withdraw their deposits, and their accounts were blocked. After lengthy litigation, the company was forced to enter rehab to repay some creditors.
According to the trustee, he has completed the procedure for the early redemption of several sets of payments. These include Base Repayment, Early Lump-Sum Repayment, and Intermediate Repayment. They were completed as the necessary documents had been submitted to the company and no issues had arisen upon receipt.
Nevertheless, despite the completion of these three repayment installments, the remaining creditors do not yet receive compensation. This is because they either delayed submitting requests to the company, or problems arose when documents were received. Therefore, the latest update has come to assist the remaining creditors in obtaining early payments.
Although the new update prolongs the repayment deadline and confirms the trust of the company to its creditors, it does not mention the change of any other parameter. Thus, the statement does not include the revised schedule of further payments and a list of unpaid claims. At the same time, the amount of recoverable crypto property is not provided.
Creditors wishing to obtain information about their claims must use the online system of Mt. Gox rehabilitation. Additionally, the trustee presented another option to creditors who do not have access to these resources.
These people can use the special inquiry form provided by the trustee, in addition to authorizing with an e-mail address. Still, the verification system for the authenticity of creditors is now more complicated than before. In this regard, queries from claimants will be processed by the Mt. Gox Trustee longer than usual.
This version may not suit many creditors, as the problem of the long-tail of requests for a long time remains unsolved. In fact, this is not the first extension of the deadline for transferring funds, as its current director, Nobuaki Kobayashi, has announced earlier. So far, the initial date has been postponed twice – from October 2024 to October 2025, and then to October 2026. This means that there really needs to be another year.
Repayments to creditors started in July 2024 through selected cryptocurrency exchanges, including Kraken, Bitstamp, and others. It is reported that this is the first time that Mt. Gox has succeeded in providing the claimed assets to creditors several years after their applications.
In addition, Mt. Gox transferred large Bitcoins to the control of cryptocurrency exchanges in the process of rehab. According to Arkham Intelligence research, on June 8, 2026, the platform moved 10,422 Bitcoins, valued at approximately $739 million at the time of the transfer. However, the purpose for this movement of funds was not revealed.
According to a business news source, at the time of sending this batch of Bitcoins, the exchange’s balance was more than 34,500 Bitcoins. While this amount may seem impressive, it speaks only of the history of this cryptocurrency wallet. Accordingly, currently, the platform may have a different volume of this asset. Anyway, the latest update of October 17, 2026, makes it clear that creditors have received another year for full compensation.
