American billionaire and NFT collector Adam Weitsman made a staggering purchase of 117 Pudgy Penguins NFTs, claiming he wanted to boost the collection and reassure its Huddle of the project’s staying power. The purchases were made on October 10-11, and the results of it were declared on October 12, a day after the collection saw a massive increase in weekly sales by 125.66% .$1
Accordingly, the numbers only include those that CryptoSlam tracked before October 10, and it remains unclear how much Weitsman’s purchases contributed to the growth.
This weekend I wanted to support one of my favorite collections during a difficult time. Decided to buy 117 Pudgy Penguins on chain to spread confidence for the community I have grown to love.
Wanted to support this OG project that’s bringing happiness to many. The Huddle will stay strong.
Return to Pudgy Penguins.

Weitsman shared the news in X about the Pudgy Penguins NFT purchase, labelling it among his “absolute favourite NFT collections”. He claimed to want to support the team behind the scenes at a crucial time for the project and reassure the Huddle regarding continued confidence in the collection.
“The Huddle will stay strong, and we must continue showing up and supporting Pudgy Penguins as it continues to empower the NFT space,” he added. $1
Weitsman did not disclose the amounts he spent on the 117 NFTs, and it is unclear if he will hold onto them for a long time or sell. Notably, aside from stating that the purchases represent his favourites, he did not share much else about the transaction, including a detailed list of purchases, which could hypothetically include every NFT for inspection.
The latest frenzy for Pudgy Penguins came as a week of strong sales, with CryptoSlam registering $1,527,397 in proceeds and a 125.66% increase in sales for the week ending on October 10.
In the race for the highest-selling NFT sets, Pudgy Penguins came in third, finishing behind Courtyard and CryptoPunks, with $2,142,730 and $19,839,659, respectively. In the same week, Pudgy Penguins’ transactions grew by 151.28%, compared to the previous week, and 54.1% compared to the total number of addresses.
Weitsman is not a one-trick collector, having made other high-profile NFT purchases, including the bulk of digital assets from Yuga Labs ‘ Otherside metaverse. The $5 million+ acquisition featured 5,225 crypto collectibles in August 2025.
Weitsman made a similar purchase two years ago, when he acquired 6,503 CryptoCats NFTs. Pudgy Penguins is one of many such franchises under Yuga Labs ‘ media company umbrella, which launched Pudgy in 2021 with a set of 8,888 CryptoCats NFTs . As a part of its broader branding strategy, the firm has repeatedly branched out beyond conventional NFT sales, exploring the markets for toys, trading cards, and merchandise.
For now, Yuga Labs seems keen on targeting regular customers, who frequent retail stores like Target in the United States. Those who purchase physical toys can also access a parallel digital version through Pudgy World website. $2
Abstract, the consumer-oriented blockchain which hosts Pudgy Penguins, will shut down its network on December 15, 2026, due to “financial realities“, it said in an official statement. It comes as a surprise to many, not necessarily the network’s failure due to a lack of usage, but the abrupt closure without any warning some time in advance.
It should most likely not affect the original Pudgy Penguins NFT collection, unless Abstract’s closure triggers a broader recession. The recent wave of publicity surrounding Weitsman ‘s Pudgy purchase appears unlikely to have a lasting effect on the collection.
