Binance Opens Crypto Trading To AI Agents With User-set Controls

Binance has launched Agent OS, a developer platform that allows AI agents to access market data, monitor user accounts and execute crypto trades. The platform works with AI tools including ChatGPT, Claude Code, Codex and Cursor. Users can give these agents permission to view account information and place trades within limits they set.

Binance says users can also assign agents to separate subaccounts, helping keep funds and trading activity apart. Access can be revoked at any time, giving users control over how much freedom their AI agents have.

The launch marks another step towards bringing AI agents directly into the crypto trading environment. Instead of simply asking an AI tool for market information or a trading idea, users can now allow an agent to carry out certain actions on an exchange.

The controls are an important part of Binance’s approach. Users decide what an agent can access and how much it can do. Binance can monitor trades executed through Agent OS, but it cannot see the external information an agent uses or how the AI interprets that information and reaches a decision. Those activities happen within the AI application selected by the user.

Agent OS is not limited to trading. Binance said the platform can also connect AI agents to its payment and onchain tools. This means agents can potentially make payments and interact with crypto wallets and other blockchain-based services.

Binance is not the only major exchange exploring this idea. Coinbase launched Coinbase for Agents in June, allowing AI models such as ChatGPT and Claude to connect with user accounts and execute crypto trades and strategies. The platform also supports agent-driven payments through Coinbase’s x402 protocol.

Kraken has taken a more cautious approach. Its AI-powered investing assistant can monitor markets and suggest trades based on a user’s goals and risk preferences, but the user must approve a trade before it is executed.

Meanwhile, OKX has been exploring a broader AI economy. Its beta marketplace allows AI agents to find work, transact with each other and even hire other agents for tasks. Stablecoins can be used for payments, while an onchain reputation system helps track the agents involved.

The growing interest is based on a simple idea: AI agents may eventually do much more than answer questions. They could buy, sell, pay, transfer and interact with blockchain networks on behalf of their users.

Several crypto executives have suggested that AI agents could eventually account for a significant share of onchain activity. Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao has also described cryptocurrency as the “native currency” of AI agents.

For users, however, greater automation also means greater responsibility. Giving an AI agent permission to trade can make crypto activity faster and more convenient, but it also means users need to understand the limits they are setting. Binance’s Agent OS is therefore not just another trading tool. It is part of a much bigger experiment in how much financial control people are willing to hand over to AI.
