Japanese game creator Gumi said on Saturday that it will start operating a 3 billion yen (about $18.3 million) cryptocurrency asset fund with support from Daiwa Securities Group, SBI Financial Services, and other investors.
The fund is run by SBI Crypto Fund, a joint venture that is 49% held by Gumi subsidiary gC Labs and 51% controlled by SBI Financial Services.
The fund will use staking, portfolio rebalancing, and hedging techniques to invest mostly in Bitcoin and key altcoins, according to Gumi’s statement on Tuesday.
The fund’s goal, according to the business, is to establish an operational track record in advance of a potential removal of Japan’s restriction on cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds while bridging the gap between the country’s corporate sector and the cryptocurrency market.
The launch expands on Gumi’s growing cryptocurrency business, which includes crypto investment funds, portfolio management services via Hinode Technologies, and the administration of its own XRP-focused cryptocurrency assets.
Cryptocurrency now makes up a sizable chunk of the company’s financial sheet, according to its most recent annual report. As of April 30, 2026, Gumi’s cryptocurrency holdings have almost quadrupled from 7.58 billion yen to 14.13 billion yen.
