FBI Confiscated Crypto Assets Worth $1.7 mn
According to a recent filing from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the organisation seized cryptocurrencies valued at close to $1.7 million between March and July of this year.
In accordance with a breach of federal law, “the Federal Bureau of Investigation gives notice that property listed was seized for federal forfeiture,” according to the document.
With tokens worth $800,000 taken, ether made up the majority of the seizures. The greatest confiscation on the list involved $463,811 worth of ether that was confiscated by the FBI in the Eastern District of Virginia.
Florida and Virginia had the most confiscated crypto assets among U.S. states, with Florida and Virginia having the most confiscated assets. Stablecoins, including DAI worth $469,000, were also seized. Eight incidents of USDT seizure were listed, but no confiscations of USDC. Other cryptocurrencies seized included $147,000 worth of bitcoin and $20,000 worth of Monero. Altcoins like Solana and Cardano were also listed. Memecoins, including $200 worth of Dogecoin, were also seized. The notifications provided details of the confiscated property and digital assets removed from hardware wallets and cryptocurrency exchange accounts.
