A new law in Brazil lets the government use bitcoin that has been confiscated from criminals to pay for public security projects. President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva signed the law to help fight crime.

The law says that cryptocurrency seized from groups can be used to train police officers, buy equipment and fund intelligence work. Courts can also let the government use this money for a period until the case is disposed of. This provision makes it easier to enforce the law.

The government is targeting gangs like PCC and Comando Vermelho, which have been linked to digital asset financial networks. The government wants to use seized cryptocurrency to help law enforcement and not to keep it as a reserve.

The law also gives police power to take, block and freeze cryptocurrency while they investigate crimes. This includes stopping access to websites, digital wallets and exchanges that are linked to activities.

The law also says that using encrypted messaging services to hide crimes will make punishments harsher. The law encourages countries to work to share information and recover assets.

This shows how governments are finding ways to use assets to improve public security while stopping cryptocurrencies from being used in crimes.
