a16z Crypto Releases Jolt zkEVM To Help Scale Chains With ZK Proofs

A16z Crypto, a division of Andreessen Horowitz, has introduced Jolt, a zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine, to accelerate and streamline blockchain scaling operations.

Jolt provides a framework for Ethereum Virtual Machine-compatible roll-ups and a novel method to build SNARK VMs, allowing developers to create fast SNARK-based Layer 2 solutions compatible with Ethereum dApps.

 It is up to 2X faster than current zkVMs, which run smart contracts using zero-knowledge proofs. Jolt is easier for developers to extend and audit, leading to greater security. Its core is the integration of SNARKs, which facilitate scalable ZK-rollups in the Layer 2 space. Jolt works alongside Lasso, a fast prover system for rollups, which enhances the scalability of blockchain applications.
