WazirX has come under renewed criticism after users claimed they were automatically enrolled into the paid “WazirX ZERO” subscription without providing explicit consent.
The issue surfaced after users received invoices and alerts showing ₹99 monthly charges deducted from wallets, including accounts that had remained inactive for extended periods.
Users shared screenshots on X indicating that auto-renewal for the ZERO plan was enabled by default, requiring manual opt-out to avoid charges.
The backlash intensified because many affected users still have portions of their funds locked following WazirX’s 2024 security breach and court-approved restructuring.
Several users said they had stopped using the platform after withdrawals were halted but were still charged under the subscription. The development has reopened broader questions around transparency, consent, and exchange accountability in India’s crypto sector.
As of publication, WazirX had not clarified why ZERO was activated by default, whether refunds would be issued, or how user consent was obtained, further fueling dissatisfaction among the platform’s user base nationwide.
