Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has further cemented its position in the Bitcoin market by acquiring 780 additional BTC for $92.5 million. The purchase, made at an average price of $118,622 per Bitcoin, brings its total holdings to 17,132 BTC, valued at approximately $1.73 billion.
With an average acquisition cost of $101,030 per coin, the company has achieved a year-to-date yield of 449.7%, according to CEO Simon Gerovich.
This move strengthens Metaplanet’s strategy of aggressive Bitcoin accumulation, setting it apart as a serious contender to Michael Saylor’s Strategy, which currently holds over 607,000 BTC.
Metaplanet is now the 7th largest public holder of Bitcoin. The latest acquisition follows a previous buy of 797 BTC when Bitcoin traded near its all-time high of $122,000. The firm aims to acquire a total of 210,000 BTC by the end of 2027, aligning with its long-term crypto treasury vision.
