Thailand To Block Bitget From December 5
Thailand is set to block cryptocurrency exchange Bitget after the country’s securities watchdog accused it of operating without a local licence. The company behind the exchange BG Limited has been hit with a criminal complaint by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

It has also notified the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society. This means that the website, associated domains and app will be blocked. In addition, the watchdog has urged customers to take appropriate steps with relation to their funds.
Between 2022 and 2025, Bitget offered crypto trading services in Thailand. In addition it charged fees for trading, and marketed its services in Thai on websites and social media. This breach licensing regulations relating to digital asset businesses within the country according to the regulator.
SEC Names Promoter
The criminal complaint has also named Kritsana Kritsananuwat who has been accused of helping to market Bitget using Facebook and YouTube. He was previously complained about by the SEC back in March 2025 for helping to promote the unlicensed activities of another crypto exchange OKX.
Licensing regulations were first introduced to digital asset businesses in Thailand back in 2018. However, they were made stricter in April 2025 to include overseas crypto platforms.
On top of this, the government made changes to a separate cyber crime law to make it easier for authorities to block unlicensed platforms.
The most recent complaint has been sent to Thailand’s Economic Crime Suppression Division to investigate. However, this does not mean that the accused parties are guilty. Prosecutors will decide if charges are brought and the courts will decide if they are guilty of any crimes.
Bitget Was Going To Buy A Local Exchange
Interestingly, Bitget had announced that it would buy GMO-Z.com Cryptonomics, a licensed local Thai crypto exchange and broker, back on October 20. This was expected to allow it to become licensed in the country.
This purchase is subject to regulatory approval, however once completed Bitget has said it would like to offer its trading platform to Thai customers.
A spokesman for Bitget said that they are currently looking into the situation and what steps they can take in relation to the regulator. It added that customer assets are safe and any changes relating to access to the services would be communicated via official channels. This shows how international crypto exchanges are coming under increasing pressure to abide by local licensing regulations.
